He was born on July 8, 1914 in Smith Grove, Kentucky to his parents, the late Lewis Cooper Williams and Bertha Skaggs Williams. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Amy J. Isom Williams who had passed away only a few days earlier on February 24, 2009; son, Reverend Harlan Bryan Williams; and brother, David Earl Williams.
Reverend Williams initially served in the Ministry as Pastor of the Cedar Ford Baptist Church in Lebanon, TN. He later served as Pastor of the Rutledge Falls Baptist Church in Coffee County, TN. He also served as Pastor at Churches in Huntsville, TN, Coalfield, TN, Benton Station, TN, Turtle Town, TN, Robbins, TN, the Westwood Baptist Church in Manchester, TN, Cookville, TN and Dayton, TN. He then served at the Tennessee Baptist Children's Homes in Franklin, TN and Chattanooga, TN and also the Georgia Baptist Children's Home in Palmetto, GA. After retirement, Rev. Williams also served as Interim Pastor of the Summitville, TN Baptist Church. Rev. Williams and his wife were both members of the First Baptist Church in Manchester.
In addition to his work in the Ministry and love for his family and friends, he will be fondly remembered for his love of gardening and his fruit trees, working on his rental houses and meticulously maintaining his cars and lawn mowers.
He is survived by daughter, Patricia Fay Ferrell (Howard) of Manchester, TN; four grandchildren, Bryan Keith Ferrell and Rita Fay Ferrell Church both of TN, Rev. Matthew Harlan Williams of Kentucky and Nathan Denton Williams of Illinois; five great-grandchildren, Matthew Isaac Williams of KY, Alexis Faith Harden, Ashley Nicole Harden, Joshua Neil Church and Jonathon Taylor Church all of TN; and a host of friends.
The Family received friends at the Visitation on Sunday, March 1, 2009 from 5 - 8:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service was conducted on Monday, March 2, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church in Manchester with Reverend Matthew Harlan Williams and Dr. Brenton Cox officiating.
Burial followed at the Manchester City Cemetery.
