Heart Gallery
Douglas County is hosting a travelling display this week that is designed to tug at your heart.
The Heart Gallery of Oregon will stand in the breezeway of the Douglas County Courthouse through Thursday, telling the stories of dozens of children in Oregon who are available for adoption.
Diane Pietrzak is the volunteer coordinator behind the Heart Gallery.
The Heart Gallery of Oregon features photographs and information about adoptable children and often times their siblings, too.
A reception is being held this morning at 11 to officially open the Heart Gallery of Oregon. County Commissioner Joe Laurance will welcome the display and Circuit Judge Pro Tem Bill Marshall will serve as the keynote speaker. DCIPA and Atrio provided the funding for the Heart Gallery to visit Douglas County.
Boey Makeover
Corvallis cancer warrior Boey Byers and her family gathered at the Church of the Nazarene last night to watch her episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition on KEZI TV.
Senator Ron Wyden was in attendance along with hundreds of friends and family who got to see the finished product on ABC television, months after the Byers family received their brand new home.
The 8 year old girl bravely fought cancer and beat it - and then it came back, this time in her spine and bone marrow.
While she was sick, Boey used her own money to buy teddy bears for other sick children to try and cheer them up.
While Boey and her family were on vacation, Ty Pennington and his team of designers tore down their old home with the help of some Oregon State baseball players and Benny the Beaver. Then they rebuilt the Byers home, complete with an entire clothing store and mannequins in Boeys bedroom and a Japanese garden and koi pond outside.
Fundraisers have sprung up to help the Byers family.
They sold bracelets and t-shirts and chocolate bars to raise money and they are giving away an afternoon with the Byers family, complete with a tour of the house.
