Crawford's friend, Ara Parseghian, a two time national championship football coach at Notre Dame, lost three of his grandchildren to the disease.
Crawford's goal is to raise $500,000 to fund clinical trials of a new drug that was found by a Notre Dame researcher. This is his fourth ride across the country in raising money for the cause.
