6/11/2018 - Lamont Reviews Richards Park Ballfield Plans On KNEL Monday - Click here to print this information

Brady Community Development Director, Peter Lamont, was a guest on KNEL's Morning Program on Monday to review the various alternatives being considered for the planned renovation of the Richards Park baseball and softball fields.

The Brady City Council has scheduled a Public Hearing on June 19th at 6pm to allow the public to offer their opinions on which projects should be included, and how they should be prioritized.

At the last Council session, Lamont explained the City was awarded a $400,000 grant in 2015 by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Dept. for renovations of the lighting and grounds at the Park. And, that grant is being matched with $400,000 from the City.

Once a contract with TPWD was signed in late 2016, the City hired an engineering firm and sought input from the public on the specific projects needed at Richards Park.

Lamont explained that during that time that the scope of the project grew to the point that when the bids were opened in May, the projected cost for all the various alternatives had grown to $1.7 million -- well above the budget of $811,000.

After some discussion, the Council agreed to ask the City Staff to look at options that are less costly. And, the Council agreed that a Public Hearing should be scheduled to get the input of Brady citizens on which parts of the renovation project should be pursued.

The Public Hearing is scheduled for June 19 at 6pm at the Muncipal Builidng on S. Elm Street.
