5/15/2018 - Davis, Sutton Sworn In For Terms On Brady Council - Click here to print this information

The Brady City Council began its meeting Tuesday night by first canvassing the vote from the May 5th election, followed by administration of the oath of office to current Council Member Jeffrey Sutton and new member Missi Davis.

The Council then adjourned for a short reception to recognize outgoing Council Member Shelly Perkins.

When they reconvened, the Council re-elected Council Member James Griffin as Mayor Pro Tem,

The Council next voted to accept a Tourism Strategic Plan prepared by Cygnet Strategies for the City of Brady and the Brady/McCulloch County Chamber of Commerce. The plan, to be carried out by the Chamber of Commerce, calls for creation of a Visit Brady branding for the effort, with a goal of increasing the number of visitors to the area, usage of the Brady Civic Center and increased tax revenues as a result of the program.

While the proposal for the plan was adopted by the Council, they stopped short of approving a provision that the percentage of the Hotel Occupancy Tax allocated to the Chamber be increased by about $53,000 to a total of 95% of the HOT tax collected. The Council will make a final decision on that as part of its budget planning process this summer.

(The author of the Cygnet tourism plan will be a guest on KNEL's Morning Program Wednesday at 8:30am. Also, on Wednesday, Brady Mayor Tony Groves will appear on the Morning Program at 8:10am to review the Council meeting.)
