1/5/2018 - Mason Mayor Hinckley Announces He'll Not Seek Re-Election - Click here to print this information

In his weekly column in the Mason County News, Mason Mayor Brent Hinckley announced last week that he does not plan to seek re-election at the end of his current term.

Hinckley has served as the Mason Mayor for 13 years. He said he had reached a decision that now would be a good time to "retire" from serving as the City's Mayor.

In the local City election set for May 5th, three places on the Mason City Commission will be on the ballot. In addition to the position of Mayor, also on the ballot will the positions of District 1 currently held by Sabin Nelson and District 3 currently held by Sue Pledger.

The filing period for candidates for the City Commission positions will run from Jan. 17- Feb. 16.

In announcing his plans to not seek re-election, Hinckley encouraged Mason residents to look around for good candidates for open positions on the Commission. And, Hinckley offered to meet with anyone considering seeking the Mayor's office to share what he described as the "joys and challenges" of the job.
