A former Redwood Falls police chief was tragically killed in a vehicle crash yesterday morning.

58 year old Michael Ose was traveling on County Road 12, Northeast of Sacred Heart, in a 2001 Ford Explorer when a 1998 Dodge Dakota Pick up struck the side of this vehicle.

Ose of Echo was airlifted to the North Memorial medical center and passed away last evening in surgery.

The accident happened at about 10:40 AM Thursday at the intersection of Renville County Road 12 and 840th Avenue.

The other driver has been identified as 29 year old Kyle Aalderks of Renville. Aalderks was transported to the Granite Falls Hospital where he was treated and released.

Mike Ose started as a patrol officer with the Redwood Falls police department in December of 1972. Over the years Ose worked through the ranks and was even the interim police chief a few times before becoming the chief of police for the city of Redwood Falls in October of 1994. Ose retired in December of 2000 and has been living in the Echo area with his wife Susie. Ose has 3 grown children and 2 adult stepchildren.

Several units responded to the accident including the Renville County Sheriffs Department, Sacred Heart Fire Department, Renville Fire Department, Sacred Heart Team, Renville and Granite Falls Ambulance, North Memorial Air Care and the State Patrol.

Funeral Services are pending at this time.

Our thoughts go out to the family of Mike Ose and the family of law enforcement offiers and staff that are suffering with this loss to our communities.
