The West Bend-Mallard School Board discussed a possible construction project during their meeting Tuesday night. Superintendent Amanda Schmidt says they continue to work on a new multi-purpose facility to be located on the West Bend campus. The building would house athletic facilities, freeing up space in the regular school structure.
During a work session last week, the board spoke with Matt Gillespie from financial firm Piper-Jaffrey about the project. Gillespie laid out the districts options for paying for the project. He recommended that the district put together a list of wants and needs for the future; that list will help the school as they plan out future efforts.
With that list finished, Schmidt says they are open to input from the advisory committee and have begun looking at possible locations for the structure. The project remains in the very early stages as according to the Superintendent they have not made any final decisions.
In other news from Tuesdays meeting, the board raised the tuition fee for three year old preschool. The state funds the 4 year old classroom and Schmidt says if they have space, they allow a few three year olds to attend. Parents wanting to enroll will have to pay $80 per month, a five dollar increase from the previous rate.
The board approved sharing two positions with Gilmore City Bradgate. The districts will share their Transportation Director for the next school year. The West Bend Mallard board approved the hiring of Leslie Wenzel as a shared curriculum coordinator with GCB.
The next West Bend Mallard school meeting will take place Tuesday, September 15th in West Bend.
